Places We Ride to Dine!

 I get asked from time to time about where we go on rides to eat.  I have answered my friends on Facebook or texts so this is not truly necessary.  However, I do like having a "place" to land when I cannot remember one name.  The details here may not be 100% accurate.  Name of restaurant, open & close days and time of service, menu, prices, all are apt to change with the weather.  Which in Ky, is often!  So, before you go....check it out!  

A short ride to Harrodsburg is one of our favorites.  Our GREAT friends, Wilma & Sam, live there plus they introduced us to The Old Owl Tavern.  It is part of the Beaumont Inn.  As mentioned earlier, the times of service vary, so make a call or check out their website.  Phone 859-734-0559.  

My review, good food, great atmosphere, lovely drive!  A win!!

Another nice drive is to Lebanon, Ky.  Cedarwood Restaurant was recommended, we may have enjoyed the ride more than the destination.  But it was interesting inside and food was good.  

I do love small towns around Kentucky and this is a pretty one.  Phone 270-692-4474, 660 East Main St.  If we were nearby and hungry, this would be a good choice.

The Farm Stead Market,  502-878-4211, 10712 Castle Hwy, Pleasureville, Ky. 

This is a nice ride and a good place to see a slower pace of life through this Amish market.  The sandwiches, bread, baked goods are delish.  It's all about the ride.  

The ride to Stanford, Ky., to the Bluebird Cafe is a must.  Located 202 West Main St. Stanford, KY. phone 606-365-1010, menu features Southern favorites.  The shops on Main Street also are an attraction to me!  Soaps and Such has good hand soaps and lotions that I use and like.

The photos of the horses and farms are from various KY backroads.  I LOVE the rides to places to eat and from!  Old Frankfort Pike, Pisgah Pike, and many others.

Goddard Bridge, crosses the Sand Lick Creek, about eight miles south of Flemingsburg, on Covered Bridge Road in Goddard, KY.  We stopped to eat at a place he knew in downtown Flemingsburg, but it was closed.  So we wound up eating at Jerry's Restaurant in Paris, Ky!  Can't beat a Champ Sandwich from Jerry's!!

Proud Mary located on the banks of the Kentucky River, ride out Old Richmond Road, phone 859-913-5611, at 9079 Old Richmond Road.  Good eats, fun atmosphere, most always seem to have outside music/band playing.  

 

Thoroughbreds of Distinction Farms

This is a working thoroughbred breeding and racehorse farm.  Specializing in rare white and uniquely colored thoroughbreds.  Not far out of downtown Lexington, a real treat!

Boonedogs Hot Dog Restaurant, 5902 Old Richmond Rd., Lexington

The dogs were very good, but we've only eaten there the one time.  A nice place inside and out to have a casual lunch.  Beautiful roads to get there and back home.

One of my favorite small Kentucky towns (not so small).  A drive to eat at Biancke's in Cynthiana is GRAND.  Cute town!  Good food.  Check out Biancke's!  phone 859-234-3443

A trip to our state capital, Frankfort, is a good ride any day.  We eat at various places there.  The water below is a look from the window from Jim's Seafood.  phone 502-223-7448   Everything made from scratch is what they boast.  We like the view of the Kentucky River out the window while dining.

Windy Corner Market, 4595 Bryan Station Rd., 859-294-9338, check on time open as this changes by the season.  One of my favorite rides, out Paris Pike or Bryan Station Road, both equally beautiful.  The food is great.  

This is one of our closest rides to eat.  The Dixie Cafe, Keene, Ky. 859-885-0191     Hot off the grill (kitchen is open to view) breakfast served all day, every day!  Lunch specials daily.  At this time, Open Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.  108 Keene-South Elkhorn Rd.

The ride there is pretty special.  Lots of horse farms and horses!

So I may not be able to download another picture, but I can't leave out Danville.  We LOVE the drive there.  The town!  The houses!  Burke's Bakery, yummy!  We have eaten at Harvey's, a local bar & pub.  Cute.  The food was good.  Another spot that was recommended to us, Copper & Oak. 303 West Main St. 859-209-2087. So cute!  A little more upscale than Harvey's I might say.  Walking around the town is my favorite.  Very nice houses going into town.  

Also, couldn't download the latest ferry pics over to Richmond to eat at Jackson's.  It is a very small, not modern or new, restaurant.  They serve off the menu, or you can choose "cafeteria" style from several daily selections of meats and vegetables.  It's located on Third Street in Richmond.  If it is your first visit, tell them.  You may get free pie!  This was Lucas' first ferry ride.

Through the years of Clyde working at Kentucky Utilities, he has eaten at many diners.  Many small town restaurants.  I could mention the Olde Bus Station in Harrodsburg.  I believe that is the name.  And so many others.  I encourage you to stop...see a spot that looks local.  Looks busy.....stop and check it out.  That's how we come to know of some.
